Reckless driver who killed 6 people, gets N500,000 bail

  Twenty-Two years old driver, Muraina Taiwo was on Tuesday arraigned before the  magistrate court sitting in Oshogbo for reckless driving which led to the death of six people.


    The accused person who was said to have been the driver in charge of diesel tipper with Registration FST 597 XY was said to have driven the vehicle without heavy permit.

     Muraina was also said to have driven on public highway in a manner that led to the death of six people - Suraju Abdulsalam, Olayiwola Shittu, Oyesakin Surulere, Abdullateef Azeez, Alabi Sayo, Kolawole Precious.

    According to the detail of the charge, the offence was committed on November 16, 2019 around steel railing area, Oshogbo Osun State.

     The offence which was said to be contrary and punishable under section 18, 27 of RTA Cap 485 laws of federation of Nigeria.

     The accused person pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

     The defendant counsel, Taiwo Awotunde applied bail for his client.

     He said the accused is innocent and ready to stand trial.

    He explained that they have met with the families of the victim and Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) members and they are not ready to prosecute the matter, but the  police refused.

    The police prosecutor, Akintunde Jacob had no objection to the application.

  However, the presiding magistrate, Opeyemi Badmus committed the accused into bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

     He adjourned the case till January 17, 2020 for mentioning.
