This is the President Muhammadu Buhari We Don't Want

"A tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny, and it is useless for the innocent to try by reasoning to get justice when the oppressor intends to be unjust"

President Muhammad Buhari, the 15th president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, marked his 77th birthday on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. The celebration came days after the president withdrew the case of Omoyele Sowore from the DSS custody to the ministry of Justice. A move he made after a public outcry greeted the alleged invasion of the courtroom by the DSS to rearrest Sowore a few hours after he was released on bail.

This act by the DSS and disobedience of court orders exhibited by the Buhari's administration brought about mixed reaction to his birthday celebration. While many lauded his achievements, many criticised is over 5 years of leadership of the country. While many made use of the acronym PMB in their congratulatory messages, others including his wife, Aisha Buhari made use of GMB in their birthday wishes.

President Muhammad Buhari was born on December 17,  1942, and joined the Nigerian armed forces in 1962, at the age of 19. PMB attained the rank of Major-General within his 21 years of service and became the first Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources in March 1976 under General Olusegun Obasanjo led military regime.

The recent outcry by the First Lady that her husband is not aware of what is going on in his administration is a repeat of what happened in 1983/1985. Tunde Idiagbo till today remains the only Vice President to have his name placed side by side with the President, Muhammad Buhari/ Tunde Idiagbo regime. The accusations by Aisha Buhari that Mamman Daura has become a de facto president of Nigeria is not a surprise to students of history.

Also, the statement by Buhari that he "takes responsibility for anything which he presided over during his military rule and that he can't change the past" described him as a converted Democrat but the illegal detention of Sowore was also a repeat of what he did to Dr Olikoye Ransome Kuti, a medical doctor who led a strike to protest declining health care services. Buhari's government detained him for years but released in 1988 by General Ibrahim Babangida.

Another major characteristic of President Muhammad Buhari was the statement made by Ibrahim Babangida that he overthrew Muhammad Buhari because he failed to find solutions to the poor economy problem in the country. The present economic situation in the country is also a repetition of the same problem that characterized his failed regime in 1985.

My message to my president

Your achievement can't be quantified with that of some because you invested so much in pipeline and petroleum storage infrastructure. You also initiated the building of refinery in Kaduna. More so,  many see you as the incorruptible President of Nigeria.  But,  how do we rate the rise in our national foreign debt?

Sir, as you have added a year to your years today (December 17, 2019), we hope you make necessary corrections and never allow the hope of millions of Nigerians in you to die.

I Wish you Long life and prosperity!
