NSCDC Officer Shot Senatorial Candidate he was assigned to protect

An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to a Senatorial candidate in Imo State has shot the senator on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The senatorial candidate identified as Ndubuisi Emenike contested for the senatorial seat of Imo North Senatorial District in the 2019 general election under Action Alliance (AA).

The NSCDC officer shot Emenike while he was shooting continuously in the air immediately he and Emenike arrived at the victory party for Miriam Onuoha, All Progressives Congress candidate at the rerun election in Okigwe North Federal Constituency.

The accidental discharge of the officer who was supposed to protect Emenike brought the victory party to a sudden end.

As at the time of publishing this report, the Senator is reportedly responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, Imo State.

"He was shot at his lower abdomen by his aide, an NSCDC officer. This is very tragic and very unbelievable. We pray he makes it. The incident has shattered our victory party", a source told Punch on Sunday evening.

The case has been reported to the Imo state police command.
