Manchester United have announced the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes signed a five-and-a-half-year deal to be at Old Trafford till 2025, with an option to extend for a further year.

He is in line to make his United debut against Wolves on Saturday evening

United agreed on a deal which could rise up to £68m for the Portuguese international, who scored 63 goals in 137 appearances for Sporting in all competitions.

He expressed his happiness at joining Man United "My love for this club really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," Fernandes told United's website.

"For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible, I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success.

"I want to express my gratitude to @Sporting Lisbon for everything they have done for me. It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team.

"A massive thank you to Ole and everyone at Manchester United for the trust they have shown in me and I can't wait to start to repay that on the pitch."

Fernandes is United's first signing of the January transfer window and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased to have secured a deal for the Portuguese, who is also targeted by Barcelona.
