Carabao Cup: Manchester City wins three in a row

Manchester City claimed Carabao Cup for a third successive season taking a step towards realising their dream of winning a treble with a shaky 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Wembley.

A close-range tap in from Sergio Aguero (19min) set the city on their way before midfielder Rodri dampened hopes of an upset when he headed home from Ilkay Gundogan's corner with half-an-hour played.

It, however, looks like Villa will cause an upset in 5 minutes to the end of the first half, as Mbwana Samatta pulled a Goal back for the London club following John Stones' glaring error (41min).

Mbwana Samatta became the fifth African player to score in the English League cup.

After a brave showing in the second half, it looked as though they might force a penalty shootout at the national stadium when Bjorn Engels' header was tipped onto the framework of the goal by Claudio Bravo, but City held on for their fifth title in the last seven campaigns and the third in three seasons running.
