Coronavirus Lockdown Party: This is How Funke Akindele and Her Husband Became Convicts [Videos]

Funke Akindele and her husband

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele shocked most of her fans when her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz, shared a video on his Instagram page showing when they were having a party with a crowd of people in their Lagos mansion amid coronavirus lockdown.

It was a birthday party of JJC and the video showed that Nigerian musician Naira Marley and Yoruba actress Eniola Badmus were in attendance.

Funke who had appeared on a video which preaches about staying home and maintaining social distancing to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic made herself a scapegoat of the lockdown which is not totally obeyed in some areas in Lagos.

Nigeria has over 232 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, with five deaths and 33 people discharged.

A week ago, President Muhammadu Buhari imposed a lockdown in Lagos, the neighbouring state of Ogun and the capital, Abuja in order to halt the spread of the virus.

Though Funke Akindele did a video to say her side of the story and also apologise for breaching the lockdown order, what she had to say was not enough to prevent her from being heavily criticised on social media.

It didn't also prevent the Lagos State Government from ordering for her arrest and subsequently charged her to court with her husband for breaching the lockdown law in the state.

Following the saga, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and disinfectant products company Dettol distanced themselves from the actress, saying she holds no official ambassadorial position with them, despite appearing on the video they produced together.

Funke and her husband appeared in Ikeja Magistrate court, Ogba, today, April 6, 2020, and they were found guilty of the charge levelled against them - keeping a gathering of over 25 people.

They were both sentenced to 14 days community services and also a 100, 000 naira fine was slammed on them.

Besides that, they would be isolated for 14 days at a place to be determined by the Lagos State Government for investigation.

Until proven otherwise in appeal, Funke Akindele and her husband, JJC Skillz are now convicts.
